6th Conference on Doctoral Research Dedicated to Sustainability

The “UPhD Green 2024” conference (7th edition), held on 7 November 2024 in Florence (Innovation Center – Fondazione CR Firenze), is a forum for discussion and sharing dedicated to doctoral research on sustainable development, with a focus on urban and regional planning, urban and architectural design, and the analysis and evaluation of policies, plans and projects for cities and territories. It aims to showcase innovative ideas and stimulate dialogue on approaches, methodologies and operational tools to advance the digital and socio-ecological transition, highlighting the practical value of PhD research through case studies and applied/experimental experiences that strengthen cross-sector synergy between academia, technical professions, public administrations and businesses.
The 2024 edition, titled “Sustainability, Innovation and New Inequalities: Opportunities and contradictions of current policies,” specifically invites young researchers to explore how new policies and technological instruments can address environmental emergencies and growing urban and territorial inequalities—while also critically assessing how innovation (political, procedural and instrumental) may reduce or exacerbate those inequalities. Particular attention is given to contributions grounded in concrete case-study evidence, enabling comparison across approaches and experiences.
