The SEW Line project is a prin pnrr research, that aims to integrate sustainability into the planning and development of mobility infrastructures, in alignment with the European Green Deal and the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. By focusing on peri-urban and rural landscapes, the project seeks to advance knowledge in infrastructure planning that preserves biodiversity, supports ecosystem services, and ensures social equity and spatial justice.
Through a holistic, scalable, and replicable model, SEW Line promotes infrastructure development that minimizes environmental impact, while addressing the needs of both nature and local communities. The project combines traditional engineering solutions with innovative, nature-based strategies (NBS), fostering a balanced approach to development that considers long-term sustainability.
Working across different case studies and in collaboration with local actors, the project employs a multidisciplinary methodology. This includes scientific research, operational collaboration, and both qualitative and quantitative analysis tools. The result is a collective and synergistic effort aimed at creating mobility solutions that respect environmental, social, and cultural integrity.
By prioritizing sustainable infrastructure development, SEW Line aims to reduce biodiversity loss, promote environmentally friendly practices, and enhance the quality of life for communities across Europe. The project’s findings and model will serve as a blueprint for future infrastructure projects, contributing to a more sustainable and inclusive future for all.
